Team Philosophy:
The purpose of the Tidal Wave Swimming program is to provide a full-range swim program for pre-competitive to national caliber swimmers based on the ideals of fun, fitness, and the opportunity for each individual to reach his or her physical, intellectual, social, and emotional potential. Tidal Wave runs a state-of the-art program that groups its members based on ability first, then age, so that the practices are taught at skill-appropriate levels and swimmers are not pushed much too early. Proper techniques and education about the sport is the foundation around which each practice group is structured. As a swimmer develops certain skills, training and conditioning are introduced and increased at levels appropriate for each individual’s age and maturity.
Team History:
The Kennesaw Tidal Wave swim team was founded in the fall of 1998 at Kennesaw State University with 60 swimmers. The KSU Aquatics Director, Lola Campbell, started the team in response to student requests for a team that could participate in USA Swimming competitions. Before that time, the University Department of Continuing Education was providing swimmers with a year-round swimming experience through stroke clinics and team readiness programs. Since then the team has grown tremendously.
Tidal Wave saw their first National Qualifier in Kelsey Savage. Since 1999, many Tidal Wave swimmers have reached higher levels of swimming on the Sectional, Jr. National, National and Olympic trial levels. 80% of our graduating Seniors have gone on to swim on the college level. The fall of 2006 brought a new chapter to Tidal Wave as longtime coach Jim McGinnis will take over the reigns of Head Coach.
The team and the coaches are dedicated to serving the needs of our community while providing each swimmer with the opportunity to achieve at the highest possible level in a team environment that promotes personal growth, character development and self-esteem. The Tidal Wave family is part of the country’s largest, best-organized and most successful youth sport.
